EE named UK’s best network by Rootmetrics

EE is once again the UK’s number one network, following the release of independent test results by RootMetrics. The UK-wide testing finds EE comes first in key measures of network quality nationwide, including performance, reliability, speed, data, calls and texting.

EE was named best overall network across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and across 14 out of the 16 UK areas measured, including Belfast, Glasgow, Leeds and London. The network continues to clock industry-leading speeds with median average download speeds of nearly 60Mbps – more than twice as fast as those offered by any other UK network.

The award reflects the huge investment made into the EE network, that has seen 5G spread across 60% of the UK’s population in less than four years and it’s underlying 4G reach over 87% of the UK’s landmass, through a unique investment programme to upgrade and build hundreds of new sites in rural areas.

Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer Division, said: “It’s a remarkable achievement to be named the UK’s best network for the nineteenth report running. The work keeps going as we look to maintain the significant investment required to ensure the rollout of our 4G and 5G networks continue to deliver for our customers.”

To mark the award, EE names a further 19 locations where the network has introduced 5G:

  • Abergavenny / Y Fenni
  • Banbury
  • Basildon
  • Beverley
  • Chepstow / Cas-Gwent
  • Coatbridge
  • Corby
  • Cwmbran
  • Immingham
  • Llanelli
  • Margate
  • Preston
  • Reading
  • Shrewsbury
  • Slough
  • Tewkesbury
  • Warrington
  • Windsor
  • Wishaw

Good mobile connectivity is vital for people living, working or visiting locations and recent BT research found that over half of entrepreneurs ran a business from their mobile phone. EE is the only network to announce plans to make 5G available anywhere in the UK by 2028, through a combination of permanent 5G coverage across 90% of the UK landmass and on-demand solutions available anywhere beyond. Last year, Rootmetrics testing showed that EE customers held a definitive lead over other operators on overall speed consistency—a key requirement for a seamless 5G connection.
